my playing card collection
The Salzburger pattern has German suits and is used in the South Tyrol area of Italy. These decks are primarily used in the Province of Bolzano. They feature the German style suits of heart, bells, acorns and leaves. There are 40 cards in each deck. There are 7 number cards in each suit, numbered 5 - 10 and a number 2. The 6 of bells seems to double as a WELI card.
This regional style is colourful and exotic looking. The number cards have an interesting scenic background below the pips of rural Tyrollean life.
The cavallo and fante are very similar but are distinguished by the placement of the suit on the playing card (a suit placed at or above the head is the higher rank, while the suit placed below the head is considered the lower ranked playing card).
